Brueghel. Wonders of the Flemish Art
The Chiostro del Bramante hosting by December 2012 an unprecedented exhibition of masterpieces of the Brueghel dynasty. The exhibition traces the history and the exceptional talent of the most important race of Flemish artists active between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, through paintings, drawings and graphics of its greatest exponents. Pieter Bruegel (Brueghel) the Elder was a Flemish Renaissance painter and printmaker known for his landscapes and peasant scenes (so called genre painting). He is sometimes referred to as the 'Peasant Bruegel' to distinguish him from other members of the Brueghel dynasty, but he is also the one generally meant when the context does not make clear which Brueghel is being referred to. From 1559 he dropped the 'h' from his name and signed his paintings as Bruegel.

Tiziano
Titian was truly the most excellent of all those who have painted: because his brush always generated expressions of life.
The Scuderie del Quirinale is planning an anthological exhibition that sets out to highlight the full range of the output of a painter universally acknowledged to be one of the greatest masters of the 16th century in Europe. Starting with the first masterpieces which he produced in the workshops of Giovanni Bellini and of Giorgione, the visitor will be able to track Titian's complete human and artistic career right up to his last, moving works, in a fully-fledged 'visual journey' designed to reveal the extraordinary technical mastery that aroused the admiration of Giorgio Vasari when he noted that Titian's first paintings were "finished with great diligence, and might be looked at near or far, but the last are worked with great patches (...) and at a distance they look perfect.

Louise Nevelson
The exhibition on Louise Nevelson is dedicated to the American sculptor of Russian origin, Louise Berliawsky Nevelson (1899 - 1988). Works by Louise Nevelson occupy an important place in twentieth century sculpture and she is correctly classified amongst the historic avant-gardes, from Futurism to Dadaism, especially amid those artists who used everyday objects for their creations such as Duchamp, Picasso and Schwitters. A nucleus of over 70 works illustrate the artist’s activities, starting from the drawings and the terracottas produced during the Nineteen-Thirties, to the assemblages in painted wood in the Fifties and the masterpieces of the Sixties and Seventies up to the important mature works created in the Nineteen Eighties, all of which belong to important national and international collections.

Empire State. Art in New York Today
“Empire State” is an exhibition that asks how artists might reimagine urban life, and how the city of New York might continue to be a site of contestation. Bringing together an intergenerational selection of artists from the city’s five boroughs and related suburban and exurban regions, the exhibition includes works that meditate on the city as a means of distributing power. It comes at a crucial time, when people are anxiously reassessing the political, cultural and economic role of the United States in world affairs. Here, contemporary art is a tool to reflect on the media pervasive in today’s cities.
